Weather and route decision support for the US Navy
SUMMARY
The Navy's Fleet Weather Center was running on decades-old legacy software with no unified system connecting shoreside operators to the fleet.
PROJECT SNAPSHOT
- Led design and product planning on a forward-deployed model, working directly alongside a lead engineer
- Led initial generative research phase, conducted site visit and observational research with analysts using legacy tools in real workflows, tested prototypes with analyst users
- Led prioritization workshop to identify the smallest whole, passage plan ingestion + 15 days weather data, as the right first build
- Invented a two-panel passage plan transcription interface using raw text alongside structured data entry with real-time route preview
OUTCOME
- Initial prototype shipped alongside legacy software. Strong positive response from users and government stakeholders in testing, operators felt it would significantly increase speed and accuracy of processing passage plans.
- $1m+ contract renewal and $2m+ total revenue from meeting contract expectations
- Entire app vision and information architecture set and aligned
